About Porto

Porto is Portugal’s second-largest city after Lisbon. It is also the town that gave the country (and port wine) its very name. The old town was built on the hills overlooking the Douro River and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Porto, without a doubt, entices its visitors with its medieval centre, divine cuisine and wine and its humble and charismatic locals. Points of interest include, but are not limited to: the 14th-century Igreja São Francisco church, Serralves, Sé Catedral, Ponte de Dom Luis I, Palacio da Bolsa, Jardim do Palácio de Cristal, as well as the many local port wine cellars, mostly located across the river at Vila Nova de Gaia.
